Briefly introduce the session and objective
Ask questions to trainees how they understand safety in the workplace.

Safety at Work
·       Labour Law prescribes that work environments are safe.
·       Facilitates optimal physical and mental health for worker
·       Prevents occupational injury: any personal injury, disease or death resulting from an occupational accident.

Identify Hazards and Risks at work              50 Min
Distribute 8 pictures and ask trainees to comment about the safety of these workers and the potential risks (see Hand out).
List the risks and potential injuries. Discuss the possible impact such injuries have for the worker.

Hazards: any source of potential damage, harm or adverse health effects on something or someone under certain conditions at work
Risk: Potential for injury from machinery, chemicals, electricity, fire, fall from ladder, slippery floor, noise, dust and etc.


Highlight that as workers, trainees will spend long hours in the workplace. It is important that employers and employees are aware of the potential hazards and risks.

Make a list of potential hazards, jointly with trainees.
