Visual Aid 2.4.7: HIV/AIDS
and discrimination
HIV/AIDS is a stigma
and marginalises, because it is
|
|
· associated
with death
· linked
to ‘wrong’ behavior
· transmitted
through sex, which is taboo
· Fear
since we do not know about it!
|
|
Note:
People with HIV can be happy and healthy and productive!
They
just need to know and get the right treatment!

Highlight that stigmatisation
and marginalisation is inhuman. Highlight that it is critical to inform the
community and families with HIV/AIDS members about HIV/AIDS, what it does and
what it does not do. Also highlight that women with HIV/AIDS are often victims
of discrimination and exclusion. Husbands and children are more likely to be taken
care of by their family members, while women get excluded by family and
community.
Visual Aid 2.4.8: Stigma
and marginalisation
HIV/AIDS stigma leads
to
· discrimination
· exclusion
from community, family
· lack
of income and livelihood
· loss
of marriage and child bearing options
· loss
of self-esteem and self-worth
· women
in particular get stigmatised and excluded
· increased
poverty
|
|
Note:
People fearing stigma do not test themselves
This will further spread HIV!
