You never listen to me
I feel that in the situation now you are not listening. Please listen.
Look at you, you are so stupid! You are incapable of doing anything well! (has spoilt the food)
I think that the food you cooked today has not been well prepared. You might want to ask someone’s help next time when you try and cook the same dish.

Highlight that general statements, accusing someone of being or doing something all the time, are most times not true. It is important to provide feedback to a situation, certain moment and provide constructive feedback so that the person does not feel personally insulted. Use the “I think/I feel/I wonder….” perspective, which also gives the person freedom to accept or not accept a feedback.
Home assignment: Ask trainees to observe at home or amongst their friends various forms of communications, including verbal-nonverbal.  Ask them to pick 1 incidence, where they felt tempted to speak negatively but changed their way to positive communication. Describe the incident, what they wanted to say and instead said to have a positive communication. Ask them to reflect. Write this incidence down and prepare a presentation during next class.

Ask trainees to present their case. Ask them what the other trainees to give constructive feedback and trainer provides feedback where required.
