You never listen to me
|
I feel that in the situation now you are not
listening. Please listen.
|
Look at you, you are so stupid! You are incapable of
doing anything well! (has spoilt the food)
|
I think that the food you cooked today has not been
well prepared. You might want to ask someone’s help next time when you try
and cook the same dish.
|
Highlight that
general statements, accusing someone of being or doing something all the time,
are most times not true. It is important to provide feedback to a situation,
certain moment and provide constructive feedback so that the person does not
feel personally insulted. Use the “I think/I feel/I wonder….”
perspective, which also gives the person freedom to accept or not accept a
feedback.
Home assignment:
Ask
trainees to observe at home or amongst their friends various forms of
communications, including verbal-nonverbal.
Ask them to pick 1 incidence, where they felt tempted to speak
negatively but changed their way to positive communication. Describe the
incident, what they wanted to say and instead said to have a positive
communication. Ask them to reflect. Write this incidence down and prepare a
presentation during next class.
Ask trainees to present their case. Ask them what the
other trainees to give constructive feedback and trainer provides feedback
where required.
