However, it is important to highlight that men and women are different. If the differences are necessary, do they have to be unequal? Is it possible to be different but equal? Highlight that sex should not be a determining factor of a person’s ability to function well in a job. Except for a few tasks, there is no proven physical reason why women cannot be good engineers or technicians. Similarly, there is no reason to believe that certain jobs or tasks should be reserved only for women, e.g., dressmaking, artificial flower making, kindergarten teachers, nurses. On the contrary, men who might excel in these end devours will be deprived of the opportunity to do so.

Highlighting that biological differences are very few and that social and cultural barriers lead to inequalities and discrimination. These need to be addressed by government, employers and by people like us. Highlight that it is our responsibility as men and women to ensure that household and family is a joint responsibility and should be shared so that it can enable women to earn more income.

Women are increasingly visible as independent individuals in politics, at work and in public life. Treating men and women equally and with respect is a central value in a democratic society and obligation that is formulated in the Bangladeshi Constitution.

Women and men have equal rights and should treat each other with respect and appreciation. A woman should first of all be treated as a human being. Many women however, feel vulnerable and have been subjugated to violence, harassment, eve teasing or many other forms of disrespectful behaviour either at home, at work or in public spaces. This session will sensitise both male and female trainees how to be respectful and treat women with dignity.
